Haspel et. al compare the pharmokinetics and bioavailability of dexamethasone sodium phosphate (DSP) given by the intravenous and nebulised route.
Their findings support similar studies in humans showing that efficacy between the two routes at reducing neutrophil counts in BAL is similar but plasma concentrations are much less via the nebulised route.
This study confirms that nebulised DSP is an effective and safe treatment for long term control of equine non-infectious inflammatory airway disease.
